In case you’ve missed the advertising in our daily newspapers, we here at NWA Media will be debuting our 2010 High School Football preview on Monday, June 21. It will be online at the website nwaonline.com/springforward

During spring football practices, our online sports editor Brandon Marcello met with the Big 6 beat writers at football practices across Northwest Arkansas to do analysis about each team, interview the coaches and show some video of the practices.

I think you’ll be impressed with what the 7-part series will have to offer. There will be video highlights, interviews, opinions/analysis and several photos.

It should be a good/fun way to jumpstart the 2010 high school football season, so don’t forget to check out nwaonline.com/springforward on Monday, June 21!

The camp (9:30-3:30 Thursday and 8:30-noon Friday) will feature position drills, full-team scrimmages and plenty of Division I talent.

Bentonville’s Marcus Danenhauer (Arkansas) and Shiloh’s Kiehl Frazier (Auburn) and Samuel Harvill (Kansas State). Jenks, Oklahoma’s Class 6A runner-up, has two commitments to Tulsa.

The Tigers also debuted a new website — www.bentonvillefootball.com — this week. Bentonville coaches are excited about the site, which will feature schedules, rosters, photos, stories and information about the program.

It also has a countdown clock to the Tigers’ season opener against North Little Rock – only 86 days away.

Two area football players (both are rising seniors) verbally committed to Arkansas this week, giving the Razorbacks plenty of reason to be happy about the future.

First, Springdale High offensive lineman Mitch Smothers (6-foot-5, 290 pounds) committed to Arkansas on Tuesday morning, and on Wednesday morning, Bentonville offensive lineman Marcus Danenhauer (6-5, 318) also committed to Arkansas.

Both players are expected to be two of the best at their positions, not only in Northwest Arkansas, but in the state this fall.

Bentonville coach Barry Lunney said Danenhauer’s size is something that gives him a huge advantage.

“Obviously his physical size is impressive and that’s one of those things that we say you can’t coach,” Lunney told Hawgs Illustrated. “He is such a young kid, but so physically mature for his age; he really is still developing physically.

“I know the Arkansas coaches see a guy that has so much upside, but that is not to diminish his ability right now,” Lunney said. “He has come a long way in 12 months and is a big-time prospect.”

Danenhauer becomes Bentonville’s third offensive lineman that will receive a Division I scholarship, as both Chase Petersen signed with Louisville and Jon-Mark Holden signed with Central Arkansas University in February.
